We've Listened To The Willy Paul,Sauti Sol Collabo. And This Is What We Think- It's Some Piece Of Sh*t!

After much hype and a very a heavy social media blitz (riddled with sensationalism and exaggerations) Gospel bad boy Willy Paul dropped his collaborative effort with Sauti Sol last evening.
Prior to that,Willy Paul, ever the publicity hound and meticulous hype creator, had teased the song's upcoming release to his fans endlessly. He'd created little tales to go along with it even claiming that his 'enemies', assuming he has any,we're even threatening him not to release the song as it was deemed a little too secular.
The media hype caught on,he also teased some of the song's lyrics and made the song such a huge deal that we were practically begging him to release the song and calm the growing anxiety.
Willy Paul even took us on a little wordy trip into the genesis of the song, the beginning of the unlikely collaboration, and what it actually meant and stood for. As if we,really, truly, ever cared. He posted on Facebook,
The song TAKE IT SLOW FT SAUTI SOL is an educative song...
It talks about our day to day life struggles
We are young and most of us struggle with FORNICATION, DRUGS among others..
Most of us are afraid of being told the truth, I took the risk because I love my country, brothers and my sisters..
We make such mistakes and regret later because no one ever addresses the issues to us.. It's true, the youth are engaging in premarital sex.
JUST TAKE IT SLOW. When the right time comes, everything will flow..
With God by your side, you'll never go wrong. If God is with us, who can be against us??
Anyway, last evening, the jam was dropped. I was among the first to listen to it,in fact, the 277th person,I guess, and boy, that was a complete waste of my time. And the company's WiFi arrangement.
Before delving into the video, which looked like it was shot on a lazy Sunday,by some guy who had just bought his first camera,is really an eyesore.
No grandness, negligible energy, boring scenes, little or no costume change, absent psyche and zero chemistry between the bunch of collaborators.
AUDIO : Produced by Jacky B (Willy Paul's errands boy) and Mudigi Savara, the vocals, arrangement, mastering and instrumentation is obviously awesome. If only the song itself matched the production excellence of these two production giants. Sadly,it didn't. Also, what we quickly realize actually is that the audio producers decided to jack of a particular beat for their song-In the song's intro -and throughout the song- you can hear a particular beat that vividly reminds you of AY and Diamond's smash hit Zigo. You can't miss the beat. And it's a pity that it was stolen.
SONG: The overall message of the song is lost in some aimless repetitions and careless lyricism that lacks any clear direction or inspiration. Willy Paul starts off the first verse with the typical yawn-y lyrics, rambling about stuff he really doesn't mean, talks about having to practice sexual restraint (lol) and before you know it,his verse is over, and we're into the chorus already. Willy Paul doesn't really tell you exactly why to take anything slow. He's lost in his own mess of shoddy lyricism and typical blabbering.
The chorus is nothing to write home about. It's just a lot of 'Take It Slow' statements weaved together. A lot. And not the exciting type.
Savara Mudigi is next with his verse. It's short and senseless. Just like his baby locks. We wish he didn't even bother in the first place. And before you can settle down to hear what Savara has for you,he's done. His whole verse is actually a quick attempt at singing out a popular methali (Mbio za Sakafuni...) And soon enough,he's done.
And quickly ushers Bien Aime to yodel on and on about random stuff and observations without really telling us anything worth the verse. He has a fairly long verse actually, but seems to be stuck in sayings he probably cooked up himself.
The whole messed up stanza business is made worse by Chimamo who finally comes in to butcher the song further,in that trademark baritone, yelling 'Take it Slow' till eternity. He even translates the words Take It Slow in Swahili, for good measure.
Chimamo didn't actually have anything to say. His job seemed pretty simple; Say 'Take it Slow' a billions times,in a billion ways, yell 'yeah yeah yeah' and it's a wrap.
And after that,it's all just a trip downhill with alot of the trademark Sauti Sol guitar marathons (even when they're not really needed),a finale that was intended to sound like a Lingala song but failed terribly and the singers coming together to yell whatever ad-lib they felt necessary before the beat finally died. And also send those kawaida shout-outs to themselves.
The song ends fast. It doesn't make you want to dance. Doesn't seem to have any particular message, seems all rushed up and messy, doesn't make you want to hit replay and doesn't seem to have made an impact whatsoever.
VIDEO : It starts off like any other Willy Paul video would start. I must have seen that particular Mercedes Benz a million times by now. It quickly veers to a scene where the boys are assembled and it seems to stay there forever.
Willy Paul's green and white costume eerily reminds you of some costume Diamond Platnumz once wore for one of his old music videos. But we all know Willy Paul is a thorough, unapologetic Diamond clone.

There are scenes of a broken family, crying child and a rather confusing scene at the end of some distraught patient and nurses and it's not clear how all of these scenes add up to the overall message supposedly being passed. It's not even clear how we even got there.
Costume change is minimal. Scene change is almost negligible and there's very little visual activity going on besides the sort of stuff you've probably seen the band do in all of their billion videos already.
Everything seems to have been rushed. And not in a good way.
Overall, the song is a painful waste of time. Of space and of studio time.
This must have been one rushed collaboration that was probably done to prove a point, conquer new markets or create a buzz. Sadly,it seems to be on the way to achieving NONE of that. Even the supposed 'take it slow' message that the singers were claiming to be pandering is also lost. They don't really tell you what to take slow. And Willy Paul is not exactly the dude you want to be lecturing you on responsible s3x. Or anything for that matter.
It's clearly a song that was hurriedly written by a bunch that didn't really think too much. Or have a lot of time to brainstorm, craft meaningful lyrics, find a better way to express themselves and eventually record.
The level of lyricism in the song is so low my nephew could draft something better. For his lower primary Swahili assignment. And NOT shoot a video for it.
Coming from such industry heavyweights,Take It Slow is really a complete disaster. And a banal, lame song that should never have been done in the first place.
Willy Paul's songs -and Sauti Sol's too- have the tendency to always hit the 1 Million views mark on YouTube. However shitty they are. And this song won't be any different.
Thankfully, the song will be forgotten four days after today. And I am willing to take that statement to the bank. Receivership or no.
Check out the song here. And forgive us for spoiling your Friday evening. But Prince didn't die for this bullcrap
