They Came, They Conquered And Some Disappeared Without A Trace. 10 Greatest One-Hit Wonders Who Flushed Their Talents Under The Drain (Photos)

They dropped songs that conquered music scene in Kenya with some hits even crossing borders to dominate airwaves in foreign countries. But they have failed with honors in their bid to repeat the feat with other songs.
There are a number of one-hit wonders in Kenya but we have only sampled 10. 10 who drop hit songs that were anthems but they have since disappeared as they have lost the mojo to repeat their achievements.
1. Czars

He dropped ‘Amka Ukatike’ which was a club banger back in the days, it’s still a danceable tune. Czars went missing after he quit school to the disapproval of his father.
He never dropped another song as he disappeared from showbiz and from his family without a trace. Unconfirmed sources indicate he went in hiding in the Middle East.

2. Uncle Ckoniah of ‘Meri Mela’

This one only a few can identify him but his song has been played on almost all radio devices in Kenya. Talk of a song being bigger than the artist then Meri Mela ‘outshone’ Uncle Ckoniah.

3. QTAC

He dropped hustlers’ hit dubbed ‘Narudi Ocha’ which was a national hit. QTAC was satisfied with the fame that his hit song brought him as he didn’t work hard enough to drop another viral song.

4. Denno

Daddy Owen held his hand and brought him to limelight with mega hit ‘Mbona’ but Denno didn’t go past ‘Mbona’. From 2012 when the song was dropped, Denno was nowhere to be seen on local charts until late 2015 when Bahati brought him out with ‘Story Yangu’.

5. Benachi

Everybody sings along ‘Mwanake’ the moment it reverberates across the hall or anywhere else for that matter. But Benachi refused to outgrow ‘Mwanake’, he has dropped other songs that didn’t go anywhere past Nairobi, and I hear he has refused to come back to Kenya ever since he set his foot in America.

6. Danny Gift

Perhaps the name doesn’t ring a bell but ‘Kazi Ya Msalaba’ sure does. Danny Gift is another artist who Daddy Owen gave traction but the moment he left him to walk on his own he stumbled and never stood again. He hasn’t dropped anything that mirrors ‘Kazi Ya Msalaba’.

7. Meg C

He was more of a socialite that a singer. Her hit song ‘Nipe’ gave her fame that intoxicated her mind to the extent that she couldn’t seat down and compose another hit song.

8. Chantel

She even changed sheng vocabulary with ‘Tokelezea’. One song earned her national recognition as everybody found a way to fix ‘Toklezea’ in words uttered to sound cool. Chantel next big hit song was…

9. Brenda of Mos Mos

E-sir brought her to the game but her credential couldn’t keep her in showbiz. She just couldn’t hack the industry, after ‘Mos Mos’ Brenda was as good as done. Hope she found alternative career!
10. Henrie Mutuku

This one her case is saddening! Henrie Mutuku dropped two mega hits ‘Manzi wa Maana’ and ‘Usichoke’ that won her numerous awards the most prestigious being continental Kora award in 2003.
The money she got from winning Kora award was the curse in to her music career. She didn’t release any song afterwards, and when she tried to they were wack!
