6 Things You Should Know About Wambui Kamiru, Bob Collymore's Wife


Bob Collymore’s low key wedding ceremony has lit up what had set to be quite a dull weekend and given Kenyans something to talk about aside from Babu Owino.
It was done without much fan fare but the location, guest list and stature of newly-weds ensured it got full publicity. However, for the larger public, the identity of the bride Wambui Kamiru was somewhat a surprise. To many she appeared the fairy peasant girl swooped top riches by marrying prince charming. Sure while it is no joke to get married to someone who heads a multi-million entity, Wambui has several achievements to her name and is no peasant girl going by the privileged education she got. Here are five things you should know about her
1.She and Bob Collymore have been seeing each other for about three years
Wambui and Bob Collymore’s marriage comes after the two had dated for a while. For some time now they have been spotted together at events and functions. This was a wedding that had been long-awaited by close friends and the media
2. She met the Safaricom Boss At a Safaricom Fundraising event
You will not meet the CEO of East Africa’s Biggest company in terms of revenue at your usual club and funny rachet festivals. It has to be those big corporate events where the nerdy ladies attend and for Wambui Wamae her chance was at a Safaricom fundraising event. This is the first time she met Bob Collymore.
3. She has had a prestigious Education Wambui Wamae learned at Loreto Msongari before proceeding with her education abroad first at the University of Maryland Baltimore County where she obtained a BA in interdisciplinary Studies. She would go on to earn a Master of Science in African Studies degree at Oxford University.
4. She is the founder of Art Space
Her husband may be heading the Safaricom behemoth, but she is one of the leading voices in art in Kenya thanks to being the founder and director of one of the most vibrant galleries in Kenya Art Space. She has showcased work of over 25 artists from the East African region. Prior to this job she worked at World Agroforestry Center as a media consultant.
5. She is a mother of twins
Wambui Wamae had children in her first marriage before she and her husband divorced. From that marriage she had lovely children two of whom were twins.
6. She is an Accomplished Abstract and conceptual artist.
Wambui Wamae is not onlya director of an art gallery but an accomplished artist herself. She has had her work showcased in various exhibitions in Kenya and South Africa including popular works like Your name Betrays You, Harambee63, Who I am Who We Are. Her work revolves around political and social issues. She honed her skills at Kuona Trust where she produced the memorable Africana.
